I’m Cyril Baldock and in August 2014 I will attempt to become the oldest person to swim the English Channel. That’s right, at 70 years young I’m going to look to break the world record taking on the harsh conditions and battling it out over 21 mile (33.8km) stretch of water that separates England and France.
While this will be my second time swimming the English Channel, it has been almost 30 years since I first completed the crossing and the challenge remains just as tough as it did back then.
As a life member of Bondi Surf Club and a passionate ocean swimmer, I have spent most of my life enjoying the Aussie beaches, sun and surf. While I have been fortunate to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that so many Australians enjoy, many of my friends have not been as lucky.
I have lost many friends to Melanoma cancer and right now I have a close friend who is suffering from skin cancer.
As I take on the 33.8km English Channel Swim I will be raising money for:
- Melanoma Awareness for all Australians
- Raising money to find a cure
- Celebrating the memory of my friends who lost their lives to Melanoma and my friend who terminally ill with skin cancer. My swim will be a tribute to them.
The Melanoma Institute of Australia is doing amazing work in the areas of research and prevention. Help me to raise funds for them so we can all help to reduce the rate of Melanoma cancer.
